    Job Description


    The Senior Donor Relations Specialist is part of a team of committed and experienced professionals and serves to engage, solicit, and steward philanthropic investments from a broad community of individual and family donors who are passionate about the mission of Starfish Family Services. This individual must be intrinsically driven, naturally curious about people, thrive in a diverse and collaborative environment, approach donor relationships with care, honesty, and creativity, possess a growth mindset and a solutions orientation, and be ready to take their fundraising career to the next level. This position will focus on development and implementing donor engagement strategies that help Starfish meet our ambitious revenue goals.


    • A Bachelor’s degree in a related field is required. 
    • Minimum 2 years of experience in relationship-based fundraising or sales (or equivalent).
    • Experience with Blackbaud’s Raiser’s Edge preferred. 


    • Work closely with Chief Development Officer (CDO) and team colleagues to develop and implement comprehensive donor engagement plans and structures from introduction, to giving, to lasting stewardship. 
    • Continuously leverage data and historic giving information to identify supporters to draw closer to mission and seek further investment from (i.e.: multi-year donors, prior event hosts, long-term volunteers, estate donors… etc.). 
    • Identify, establish, maintain, and deepen relationships with 400 to 500 community members who are giving or who have potential to share gifts between $1,000 and $50,000. 
    • Create a tiered strategy for donors in this portfolio and deliver ongoing, tailored reporting and outreach on the impact of their investments. 
    • Provide personal outreach to new donors to build an ongoing relationship to Starfish; focusing on relationships with capacity for gifts of $1,000 and higher. 
    • Support CEO in customized outreach identified essential donor relationships. 
    • Serve as a partner to the Board of Directors as members engage in customized outreach and stewardship, and actively participate in fundraising and community relationship activities.
    • Cultivate relationships centered in authenticity, a shared passion for mission, and with the “just right” personal touch; build customized donor proposals.

    • Familiarity with supporting committees, executive leaders, and Board of Directors. 
    • Ability and aptitude with Microsoft Office Suite and other technology necessary for successful day-to-day functioning in a business/office environment. 
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
    • Ability to present information effectively in both formal and informal environments.
    • Demonstrated understanding of the intersection of race, gender, and poverty; must have commitment to a social justice and racial equity.
