Livonia was ranked in 2005 as having second lowest level of socioeconomic stress among cities with a population of 100,000 or more, according to the American City Business Journal

  • Livonia is in the 90th percentile of all communities, regardless of size, for having low socioeconomic stress (2005 American City Business Journal)
  • There are seven colleges in the city, including the main campus for Madonna University and Schoolcraft College
  • Livonia has a diverse economy and an unemployment rate of about 3.5 percent, which is well below state and national ratings
  • The FBI ranked Livonia 15th in the nation for communities with the fewest crimes per capita (2003 statistics)
  • Livonia Public Schools achieved all federal guidelines for student learning in 2007 and 90 percent of all graduates pursue post-secondary education
  • Outside of Detroit, Livonia has the most acres of park and natural preserve land of any city in southeast Michigan
  • Livonia has been named a Tree City USA for the past five consecutive years (10 years overall), for city laws that protect trees and programs that encourage planting more trees

With a population of 100,000, Livonia is the eighth largest city in Michigan and the second largest in Wayne County. At 36 square miles, Livonia has the fourth largest land area among Michigan cities.

Livonia's location is convenient—with access east to west on the Jeffries Expressway (Interstate 96), the Interstate 275 expressway flowing north to south, and additional access to major highways and interstates passing through in all directions. Livonia is also just 20 to 25 minutes from Detroit Metropolitan Airport. While being so near to both larger cities and other smaller communities, Livonia offers a rich blend of cultural, entertainment and family-friendly offerings.
