Livonia Public Schools
If you want to live in Livonia, be prepared to become actively involved in your childs education. The Livonia Public Schools are successful because as one ofchildren's play the ten largest school districts in Michigan they are able to offer a broad range of high-quality learning opportunities combined with outstanding parental support to provide each child an education that fits their needs.

Parental Involvement
Livonia has the largest and most-active Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) in Michigan with nearly 11,000 members.

In the 2008-2009 school year, first graders will be the first to receive a stipend toward college education savings as part of the “Competitive Edge” program developed by the LPS Foundation. This seed money, and contributions made annually by parents, will provide Livonia high school graduates thousands of dollars toward college or vocational training.

Some 90 percent of Livonia Public School students graduate (State graduation rate is 75.45 percent).

The breadth of programs offered in the schools is also one of the districts keys to success. These programs encompass offerings for children of all ages and abilities. They include:

  • International Baccaulaureate program comes to Franklin High School in 2009.
  • Academically Talented and Gifted programs begin in first grade at Webster Elementary School.

  • Built new state-of-art field houses and gymnasiums at all secondary schools (2002)
  • Prevocational and vocational programs for students with disabilities

Outstanding Results
The results from this approach of combining a broad range of educational opportunities and parental involvement are outstanding.

  • Students consistently score above state average on all of the Michigan Education Assessment Program (MEAP) tests.
  • Students also score well on other standardized tests like the ACT and SAT
  • Livonia schools graduate an average of 90% of their students
  • Some 90% of LPS graduates pursue post-secondary education.
  • All schools accredited by the North Central Association which is an outcomes based accreditation
  • Schools in the district received 12 A's, 15 B's, and one C on the State's Education Yes! Report Card.

classroomThe Livonia Public Schools operate 22 elementary schools, four middle schools, three high schools and a career/technical center enrolling over 17,500 students total. Quality teachers support the students, with 64 percent holding advanced degrees. The schools also have fully modern facilities that are well maintained with high technology to provide an outstanding educational experience.

Clarenceville School District
In the northeast corner of Livonia students attend a small district with a big heart, Clarenceville School District is one of the first school districts established in the state of Michigan and is a member of Oakland County Schools. Parents and students have a great passion and pride for their schools. The district enrolls 1,900 students. Recent bond issues passed provide upgrades to building facilities, add computer technology, and improve the teaching and learning environment in all buildings. Programs and services of the district include preschool, speech therapy, Family & Friendsfield trips, summer camps, and more.
Clarenceville

Clarenceville School District offers one high school (grades 9-12), one middle school (grades 6-8) and two elementary schools (grades K-5). All four buildings are accredited by the North Central Association.


Grandview Elementary received Michigan's highest donor in 2005 for being chosen as a Blue Ribbon School. Also in 2005, Ellen Demray, the principal of Grandview, was recognized as the Michigan Principal of the Year.

Private Schools
Private school enrollment within Livonia is taken advantage of by 15 percent of Livonias youth. Private schools include Galilean Baptist School, Saint Paul Lutheran School, Saint Genevieve School, Saint Michael's Elementary School, Saint Edith School, Ladywood High School, Livonia Montessori and Peace Lutheran School. Livonia is also home to The Montessori Center of Our Lady, founded in 1976 by the Felician Sisters.

Colleges & Universities
Livonia is home to more institutions of higher learning than any other southeast Michigan suburban community. There are two colleges that have their main campuses in Livonia.

Schoolcraft College
Housed in a modern multi-facility complex, Schoolcraft College is one of the Schoolcraftfinest community colleges in the Midwest. More than 30,000 people enrich their personal and professional lives by taking part in a learning experience at the school. From getting the basics for an associates degree, credits toward a four year degree or improving skills needed for todays workforce, Schoolcraft College is the place to go. They have the largest offering of continuing education services in Michigan. Among the many programs the college offers is an outstanding culinary arts program that was voted as the top program in the country by Chef to Chef magazine. For families in Livonia, Schoolcraft provides the next logical educational step for many students not going directly to a four year college.

Madonna University
Madonna University is a four year independent liberal arts college with its Madonna Universitycentral campus on 49 acres in Livonia. With over 4,500 students, the school offers over 50 career-oriented undergraduate majors and 22 masters degree programs. With the student faculty ratio of 17-1 students receive the individual attention essential for educational growth. The school also is the most affordable independent liberal arts university in Michigan.

Other schools in Livonia
Livonia’s evolution as a regional hub for higher education continues as Davenport University’s opened a newly constructed facility which opened in Fall 2008. This gave Livonia its seventh college or university facility, all of which have easy access to regional freeways. Along with Madonna, Schoolcraft, and Davenport, there are Livonia facilities for Eastern Michigan, University, Central Michigan University, University of Phoenix, and Northwood University. During the school year, some 25,000 college students are attending classes at a facility in Livonia. There are at least two other schools, Ferris State University and Lawrence Technological University, that also offer programs in Livonia.
