A cornerstone of The Henry Ford, Henry Ford Museum is a remarkable
showcase of people and ideas that have changed the world. Its collections
include
the Rosa Parks bus, Lincoln’s chair, Kennedy’s
limousine, George Washington’s camp bed, Edgar Allen Poe’s writing desk
and even the Oscar Meyer Wienermobile! The collections include thousands
of technological, social and cultural innovations.
Greenfield Village is a journey into the sights, sounds
and sensations of America’s past. Ride a steam locomotive and a steamboat,
encounter period presenters and artisans practicing time-honored crafts,
and explore over 90 historic buildings on this 81-acre historic site where
American experiences and traditions come alive. Visitors can even experience
transportation of the past with a ride in a Model T.
Ford Rouge Factory Tours take you inside one of the largest
industrial complexes in the world as you witness the production of the
Ford F-150 pickup truck. Once inside, the tour begins with a brief movie
about Henry Ford and the Ford Motor Company, followed by a virtual reality
experience that takes a 360-degree look at how automobiles are made. Witness
the complex's living roof and then observe the final assembly process
from an elevated walkway inside the factory.
The Detroit Zoo - Just 20-30 minutes away in Royal Oak, Michigan.
An animal-lover’s paradise, the zoo offers large open spaces and wonderful
outdoor animal environments. Don’t miss the Mandrill (it’s a colorful
baboon) exhibits. The Wildlife Interpretive Gallery is a must-see! This
historic building has been resurrected as a butterfly/hummingbird garden,
coral reef aquarium, theater, exhibition space, art gallery, and multi-media interactives. Summer hours (April-October) are 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Wednesday,
until 8:00 p.m. June 19-August 28. Winter hours (November-March) are 10:00 a.m.-
4:00 p.m.
Downtown Detroit - Just 20 to 30 minutes away.
Downtown Detroit is the home to world class museums including the Detroit
Institute of Art, one of the nation’s largest theater districts, three
professional sports teams, and three casinos. In addition, if you would
like to experience the sites and sounds of another country, Windsor, Ontario,
Canada sits just across the Detroit River.
